Mayme Marcks

1919 — January 31, 2021

MARCKS, Mayme Alice, 101, of Clearwater, passed away on January 31, 2021. Born in Wisconsin, raised in Minnesota, she was second youngest of 11 children. A member of the National Honor Society, she graduated 10th in her Cloquet High School class then graduated Duluth Business School. She worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Washington D.C. during WWII. In 1946, she married Carl Marcks, a Naval officer and engineer, then moved to the suburbs to begin what she described as her second career as “stay at home mom.” Over the years, Mayme was involved with her church, the PTA, the local Civic Association and scouting. She enjoyed playing bridge, canasta and pinochle with friends and neighbors. She was an award-winning amateur duckpin bowler and a competitive tennis player. She loved swing music, a good Manhattan, Harley Davidson motorcycles and, above all, she loved to dance. After Carl retired, they moved to Florida, then traveled the world together. Mayme is preceded in death by Carl, her husband of 61 years, and his son Frederick; her parents, six brothers and four sisters. She is survived by sons Drew and Dale and daughter Tina; sister-in-law, Betty; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted at Pinecrest Funeral Chapel in Spring Hill after the pandemic. She will be interred at Florida National Cemetery. Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there, I do not sleep I am a thousand winds that blow I am the diamond glints on snow I am the sunlight on ripened grain I am the gentle autumn rain When you awaken in the morning's hush I am the swift uplifting rush of quite birds in circled flight I am the soft stars that shine at night Do not stand at my grave and cry I am not there, I did not die Mary Elizabeth Frye
