Weeki Wachee

Carol A. (Humes) Pettit, of Weeki Wachee, Florida, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2026, at 84 years of age.

Loving wife of 61 years to John C. Pettit Jr, devoted mother of John (Jackie) Pettit and Robert Pettit, and grandmother of Jillian Pettit: “the apple of her eye”.

She is preceded in death by her daughter, Susan Renee Pettit; her parents, George and Ethel Humes; and her brother George and sister-in-law Sandra Humes.

Carol spent her life in service of others. She was a selfless homemaker, a caring wife, and an attentive mother— embodying the principle that family always comes first. After raising her children, Carol went back to school. She started her career as a nurse’s aide and then furthered her education to become a licensed practical nurse. She worked for many years at Underwood Memorial Hospital in Woodbury, New Jersey, spending most of her time taking care of and supporting patients on the cancer floor.

Carol enjoyed spending her time crocheting, making everything from baby blankets, booties, and mittens to pen holders and scarves — donating many items to women, children, and seniors in need.

Carol always maintained an active social life in both NJ and FL, a penchant for volunteer work, and an adorable soft spot for animals.

The kitchen was Carol’s kingdom, where she ruled as the uncontested queen. She was an amazing cook, baker, and loved when everyone was over for dinner. Carol enjoyed hosting holidays, birthday dinners, and lazy afternoon lunches where family would gather for deli sandwiches after a long day in the pool.

Carol (Wife, Mom, Mom-Mom, Aunt, Friend) will sorely be missed by all, but the memories she created will never be forgotten.
