DAVID WESLEY SLOCUM, 69, of Brooksville, Florida passed away on Saturday, April 7, 2018. He was born in Du Page County, Illinois on May 30, 1948.
He is survived by his brother, William (Bill) Slocum of Petaluma, California; his daughter, Ann Marie Slocum of Ft Lauderdale, Florida; son Wesley and wife Cira Slocum of St Louis, Missouri; and three grandchildren: Devon Scott Slocum, Ellen Mary Slocum and Colton Wesley Slocum all of St Louis, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by this father, Charles Robert (Uncle Bob) Slocum born in Nebraska; his mother, Eva Opal (Trefny) Slocum born in Portland, Oregon and his older brother, Charles Robert (Bobby)(Chuck) Slocum.
David was very proud of his service to the United States in the Army 3rd Infantry at Fort Mc Nair, Washington DC. He served during the Vietnam Era as a guard for Pat Nixon and her two girls and served many hours at Arlington National Cemetery. He was proud of his passing the EIB, Expert Infantry Badge, test on his first attempt which is a one week testing that only 10% pass on their first attempt. He served in the Army reserves until 1975 in St Louis, Missouri.
David was just as proud to have been one of President Ronald Regan’s fraternity brothers at Ericka College in Illinois.
He worked as a salesman after the service for many years and he ended his career as a bartender.
He will be missed by all of his friends at the Grande, especially his BINGO friends and Judy whom he talked to for many hours.
He will be especially missed by his cousins, Rich and Sandee (Trefny) Michaels and their family who he spent the last 12 years of his life. The Michaels Family moved him with them from Du Page County, Illinois to Gurnee, Illinois to Oldsmar, Florida and finally to Brooksville, Florida. He spend all the holidays with the Michaels Family and took many vacations even went fishing and canoeing in the Michigan UP.
We will miss you Dave and all your many stories!
Service will be on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida
