Donald Robert Buckner

Donald Robert Buckner, 90, of Spring Hill, FL died November 17, 2015. He was born January 26, 1925 in Astoria, Long Island, NY. After completing the Navy V-12 training program at Hobart and William Smith College in 1944, Don served as a US Naval officer in the Pacific during WWII. While stationed in Hawaii, Don sang with a Navy 15-piece big band. During his Naval service Don earned the American Theatre Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and WWII Victory Medal. After leaving the Navy in 1946 and earning his B.A. at Hobart College he married, began a lifelong career as an advertising sales executive, and raised a family in Northeastern Ohio. An active member of his community, Don also became an avid golfer, continued his love of singing, and passion for crossword puzzles. Don retired to Timber Pines, Spring Hill, FL in 1991 and enjoyed many years of golf and relaxation. He is survived by: (married sons), Christopher (Rosanne), Michael (Lee Ann) Buckner; (in-laws) Garry (Karin) Smith, and four grandsons David Buckner, Paul and Mark Buckner and Devon Smith. Don was a member of St Andrews Episcopal Church. Donald was a widower, surviving both Mary (McGovern) Buckner and Janet (Smith) Buckner.
