Douglas "Dougie" James McDermond, age 57, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2026, at Sturgill Hospice House in Florida. Born in St. Cloud Minnesota and raised in Brainerd, Doug lived a life defined by hard work, loyalty, music, laughter, and deep love for his family and friends.
Doug was a carpenter by trade and an exceptional framer — the kind of craftsman who took pride in doing things right and doing them well. He built more than homes throughout his life; he built friendships, memories, and a family that adored him.
He loved classic rock and country music, with Steve Miller Band always holding a special place in his heart. He found peace at the beach, especially at Siesta Key, which he considered his paradise.
Doug was a caring and devoted father, brother, and friend. He is survived by his son Tucker (Brittany), and Daughter Ashley (Max); his beloved “bonus child,” Luna the dog; his brothers Dave, Billy (Jenny), and Tommy (Deb); and his sister Kathy.
He is now reunited in heaven with his parents, William and Donna; his grandparents; dear friends he lost throughout the years; and his beloved dogs Brittany and Max. One story that always made Doug laugh was the coincidence that both of his children ended up marrying people named after those childhood dogs — something he never stopped getting a kick out of.
A Celebration of Life for Douglas James McDermond will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. at Siesta Key Beach in Sarasota. For friends and family attending in Florida, the gathering point will be near the Siesta Beach Eats area and the concrete bathroom buildings.
A second Celebration of Life will be held in Detroit Lakes Minnesota on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Bleachers Sports Bar & Grill.
Doug will be deeply missed, endlessly loved, and forever remembered by all who knew him.
