Frank Paul Barber of Altamonte Springs, FL passed away on May 11th, 2026 at 85 years of age. Frank was born in Chicago in 1941, the youngest of four children in a Sicilian-American family. He grew up on Springfield Avenue and attended Our Lady of the Angels Catholic School. Frank was drafted into the U.S. Army, received artillery training in Oklahoma, and proudly served in the Vietnam War as part of the 9th Infantry Regiment.
Frank followed his military service with property management and real estate in the Orlando area for over 40 years, founding his own firm, Deer Run Realty and Management. He could often be found directing landscapers, inspecting improvements, or fielding a seemingly endless stream of phone calls.
Frank was a well-known opera lover and supporter of the arts, including with his talent as a board member and volunteer. He was a constant presence at performances by Opera Orlando, the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, and other local groups. Frank was also an enthusiastic and longtime member of the University Club of Winter Park, the Central Florida branch of the English Speaking Union, and the Stag Club of Winter Park until his death.
He is survived by his daughter Alissa Barber Torres and her husband Anthony Torres of Orlando, FL; his son Frank Barber III and his wife Meredith Gibbons of Seattle, WA; and four wonderful grandchildren: Ingo, Alana, Una, and Marley. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Rich Augustyn, as well as many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Jerie Barber; his parents Frank Barber and Rose (Franzone) Barber; his brother Vince Barber; and his sisters Rosemary Sarangelo and Tura Angsten; and other dearly-loved family members.
A memorial event will be held for Frank’s family and friends on May 30 from 2-5 pm at the University Club of Winter Park. A private mass for his extended family will be held at a later date prior to the internment of ashes for both Frank and Jerie at Queen of Heaven Mausoleum in Hillside, IL.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the University of Central Florida’s UCF Opera program or Opera Orlando to honor Frank and his passion for the arts and community.
