James E. Burns age 88 of Brooksville Florida was called home on Sunday July 9, 2023 with his loving wife by his side. James “Jim” is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Joann Burns (Hill); children, Daniel (Brandi) Burns, Tina Faulkingham, and Donald Burns; grandchildren, Daniel (Kristin) Burns Jr., Tiffany (Thad) Klenovich, Niki Burns, Jacob (Katrina) Faulkingham, and Cameron Burns; 5 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. James is preceded in death by his parents Alexander and Margaret Burns; his sisters Helen, Lorraine, Dorothy, Marie and his brother Robert.
James was born in Hammond Indiana where he attended Hammond Tech High School and played tennis and ran track. He was a US Army Veteran where he served in Germany. He had a long career with Southern Bell and retired after 30 years of service as an engineer at the age of 48. His hobbies were playing tennis, bowling, golfing, and he loved to go fishing. He loved gardening so he could grow his own vegetables which he was very proud of. He was known for his impersonation of the “Donald Duck Voice” that brought everyone who heard it a smile. He belonged to the St. Anthony Catholic Church where he served as an usher and was a member of the Men’s Club and later joined as a parishioner at St. Frances X. Cabrini Catholic Church. James loved to spend time at the beach with his beloved wife (Joann) and Family, but most of all James loved to be with his Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:00am, Friday, July 21, 2023 at St. Frances X. Cabrini Church in Spring Hill, FL 34609. Burial will follow at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell.
