John Charles Masterson

John Masterson, 87, passed away Saturday, May 13, 2023 in Spring Hill, Florida with his family by his side.  John was born January 5, 1936 in Newark New Jersey.  He is survived by his wife of 67 years Nancy, two children, Michelle and Cornelius and two grandchildren, Tracey and Cornelius.  He was retired for 27 ½ years from the East Orange New Jersey Police Department where he held the positions of patrolman, homicide detective and Sergeant.  He lived in Spring Hill Florida for 30 years.  In retirement he found he had a talent for acting.  He spent 20 years with Community Theater both acting and directing in many plays, appeared as an extra in film as well as television ads and voice overs. 

He most loved working with children both in acting and coaching baseball.  Coaching and his garden filled his time.  He then found he had a niche in writing when joining the Brookridge Creative Writers Group.  With their encouragement to share his stories, he became a published author of the crime thriller “Dolan:  Murder Cop” a collection of 16 stories based on his years as a homicide detective.
