Maria Jose Chaves

Maria Jose Cabral Chaves, 71, Brooksville, passed away on January 2, 2023 at home surrounded by her loving family. Maria was born 03/19/1951 to the late Angelo P. Chaves and Maria S. Chaves in Santa Maria, Azores.

She has been a resident of this area for several years having left her previous home in Massachusetts. She was Catholic by faith and enjoyed attending services at Saint Anthony Catholic Church. Maria loved being with her family, traveling each year back to Santa Maria, Azores, gardening, knitting, baking, loved to decorate for Christmas and enjoyed sitting on the front porch having conversations with her family.

For those who were fortunate enough to know Maria, knew she was the strongest, most stubborn, selfless woman who loved her family more than anything. The magnitude of her loss on her family is a testament of that love. Her memory and love will live on in all of us.

Wife of the late Dinis Filipe Sousa Chaves.

She is survived by Children: Veneranda (Manuel) Rodriguez, Alcina Sherick, and Horacio (Coquita) Chaves.

Grandchildren: Malinda (Micheal) Boyle, Elizabeth (Sarah) Chaves, Kassandra (Hesser Sobrino) Sherick, Isabel (Cody) Johnson, Vanessa (Gregg) Foster, Dinis Rodriguez, Filipe Rodriguez, Horacio Chaves.

Great Grandchildren: Lucas Boyle, Anthony Sobrino, Dominic Boyle, Isaac Boyle, Ryder Boyle, Mackenzie Johnson, Zyla Sobrino, Austin Foster, Emberlynn Johnson, Zakius Sherick.

Siblings:  Antonio (Maria) Chaves, Maria Helena (Caetano) Freitas, Joseph (Georgina) Chaves, Ida Chaves and many nieces and nephews.
