Richard I. Halley, Sr. of Brooksville, FL passed away on August 4, 2025 of natural causes. He was 92 years old and was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife of 49 years, Mary Jane (O’Connell) Halley.
Born and raised in the Village of Rockville Centre, NY, Richard graduated from Lehigh University in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and held a Master of Business Administration in Finance from Adelphi University. He was licensed by New York State as a Professional Engineer and was employed by Grumman Aerospace for his entire career.
In addition to a rewarding career, Richard was very involved in his community. He served as the Chairman of the Village Environmental and Beautification Committee, a member and Secretary of the Rockville Centre Kiwanis, served on the Parent Committee for Boy Scout Troop 214, and was an active volunteer in the Bicentennial Celebration in 1976 along with his wife, who was the Village Historian.
Once retired, Richard and Mary Jane moved to Lackawaxen, PA and became active in St. Ann Catholic Church in Shohola, PA. When they weren’t volunteering, they loved square dancing, international travel, and camping with their family. In later years, they spent the winter months in Florida.
A committed family man who could fix just about anything and loved attending his son’s and daughter’s games and theatre productions, Richard is survived by his five children: Maureen Halley of Billerica, MA; Richard Halley, Jr. (Judith) of Northport, NY; Sarah Halley of Philadelphia, PA; Charles Halley (Laura) of East Meadow, NY; and James Halley (Eileen) of Bridgeport, PA; nine grandchildren; Meghan Hawthorne (Andrew); Rebecca Lederhos; John Halley (Carly); Robert Halley; Leah Halley; Brionna Halley; Prem Halley; Jack Halley; and Charles Halley; and four great grandchildren; Cameron Hawthorne; Jack Hawthorne; Henry Halley; and Charles Halley. In addition to family, he leaves behind a team of wonderful caregivers at Brooksville Health Care Center and his dear friends, Teri Topping and Kim Haner.
Richard will be interred next to his wife in a private service in Shohola, PA in April 2026.
