Obituary of Rudolph Kury:
Rudolph “Rudy” Kury went peacefully to be with God on June 20, 2025. Rudy was born in Philadelphia, PA on June 19, 1943, grew up in Salisbury, MD and spent the last 40 years of his life in Clearwater, Tarpon Springs and Spring Hill, Florida.
Rudy is survived by his wife of 39 years, Jean, son Mark (Shelly,) daughter Cathy Hoyt (Fred,) son John, stepdaughter, Amy Baker, and grandchildren, Cameron Hoyt, Nathan Hoyt, Drew Kury, Allie Kury and Sarah Baker. He was preceded in death by his father, Wilhelm, mother, Hilda, sister, Hilda Stagg (Ben) and brother, William.
Rudy spent most of his career proudly serving his country. He served two Vietnam tours in the Navy, on the USS Hancock, and was in a military unit that marched in President John F. Kennedy’s funeral procession. He served in the Coast Guard from 1971 to 1987, where he received an accommodation for helping recover the crew of the Space Shuttle Challenger.
Rudy had a strong Lutheran faith and love of God and country. He had a love of travel, history, woodworking, cars and Florida State University, and took great pride in his children and grandchildren. He was loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
A Memorial Service will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1214 Broad Street, Masaryktown, FL where Rudy and Jean have been members for 15 years. The date and time of the service will be announced at a later date.
