Shirley A Miller

May 15, 1935 — August 5, 2021

Shirley A. Miller, 86 of Brooksville, Florida, passed away peacefully on Thursday August 5, 2021. Born to Axel and Dora Nelson on May 15, 1935, in Evanston, Illinois. She was a 1953 graduate of Evanston Township High School. Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband John Miller, her parents and siblings. She is survived by her daughter Connie Malone of San Bernardino, California, six step-children and numerous nieces and nephews throughout the country. Shirley was loved by all and will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She retired after 37 years as a civilian working for the USAF. Her career was in the security departments at Norton AFB assigned to the Ballistic Missile Command. Shirley excelled at her position and received many accommodations and truly enjoyed her work. For many years she was a member of the AWBA and was named Woman of the Year in 1988. In the early nineties John and Shirley relocated to Brooksville, FL, where they spent many happy years with family and friends. Shirley enjoyed roller skating, bowling, and had a love of fashion and reading. Shirley was a very self-sufficient woman, living independently until her final days. She maintained a positive attitude and was hopeful about the future, despite fighting cancer for several years. "I'm hanging in there" was her mantra until the very end. Shirley is now reunited with her soul-mate John in peace and in Heaven. A Memorial service was held at Pinecrest Funeral Chapel with Interment at Florida National Cemetery.
