Walter L. Mitten

Walter Louis Mitten, 85, Spring Hill, Florida passed away on March 28, 2017. Walter was born on April 15, 1931 in New York City to the late Henry and Bertha (nee Reinhart) Mitten. He married Marcella Savino in 1953. Walter and Marcella had three children, Christopher, Douglass and Melissa, and raised them in Commack on Long Island. Walter attended Fordham University for undergraduate and Columbia University receiving an MBA. Walter was a Naval Aviator (LTJG), training sea plane pilots while stationed in Bermuda and Panama. Walter worked as a General Manager for Fairchild and in 1975 started his own consulting company. Later he worked as an Executive Coach helping high level business-people attain their fullest potential. He retired and moved to Florida with Marcella who passed away in 2003. He then met and married Elizabeth Guido who also preceded him in death. In 2009, Walter married Marie Ida DiPietro. Ida lovingly and compassionately cared for Walter and remained faithfully by his side until his passing. In addition to his loving wife Ida, Walter leaves behind his three children: Christopher (Luana) Mitten, Douglass (Ellen) Mitten, and Melissa (Edward) Guadaro; and five grandchildren: Ed Guardaro, Christopher Guardaro, Emilie Mitten, MD, Andrew Mitten, and Louis Mitten. He also leaves behind to cherish his memory Ida’s children: Cheryl (John) Burnett, Susan (Kenneth) Ryan and Robert (Lynne) O’Brien; her grandchildren: Heather (Broc) Olejniczak, Sean Burnett, Stephanie O’Brien and Michael O’Brien; and her great-grandchildren: Amelia Olejniczak, Averic Olejniczak, Eric Burnett, and Alexander Burnett. A wake will be held Sunday April 2nd from 2-4pm at Pine Crest Funeral Chapel (3369 Mariner Blvd Spring Hill). Funeral is 11am Monday April 3rd at St. Francis Cabrini Church (5030 Mariner Blvd Spring Hill).
